A mysterious slasher is terrorizing the Tokyo neighborhood of Ikebukuro, choosing victims seemingly at random: a reporter, a school girl, a gang member. But his posts in a local online chat room reveal a creepy fixation on Shizuo Heiwajimia, and the Black Rider and her doctor are starting to see a pattern linking the slasher to a demon blade that terrorized Shinjuku years before. As in the main Durarara story line, this two-volume spin-off intertwines stories about several different characters—many from the original series—to create one overarching plot. In addition to the expressive artwork and effortlessly flowing story, there is enough exposition introducing each character that readers new to the franchise should have no trouble following the story. Much of the nuance of the main story is lost, however, so new readers may feel they are missing something, and they are. This volume is a good start to a companion series, but the main story should be read first. Grades 10-12. --Eva Volin

Durarara!! has yet to let me down.

I've been buying the manga since I got into the anime, which was about a month after the first volume was released. And I have never been disappointed with it.
This volume, the Saika arc, includes some of my favorite scenes and situations. The reporter searching for the strongest in Ikebukuro, Shizuo Heiwajima's past, and, honestly, just Saika.
I was extremely pleased with this volume and am waiting impatiently for the next to be released.

Yup. It's Durarara!! At least the manga doesn't drag on as long as the anime. And the art is getting better little by little.

Great manga!

My dumb self preordered this before it had "manga" in the title, before it was listed as graphic novel format, etc. because I thought it was the translation of the first novel! D'oh! But it's still a great manga. It has a matte cover with shiny lettering, which is much nicer than your basic manga cover (although more prone to bent edges). Content is true to the show; not sure about the novel because I have yet to read it!
