This book was by far the worst Michael Bennett book JP has written thus far. We start off nice and slow, I mean really slow which wouldn't really be a problem if it made sense. We're introduced to Mikes arch nemesis in the department that no one has ever heard of before this book who is intent on screwing with his career..great is this the story? No. Just some added fluff for us to understand why Mike is where he is. Next we're introduced to band of misfit cops that within two days are now great and responsible..great is this the story? No. It gets better... We're next introduced to Chrissy's biological father who makes two appearances in the book and could of been left on whatever side of the brain Mr. Patterson formed him on. That part of this 4 part story could of been left completely out. We have a cannibal and a jewel thief that exit the book just as quickly as they entered. A suicide for one and only Mr. Patterson knows what happened to the jewel thief, cause OBVIOUSLY I'm not interested in knowing. Did he go to jail, get a reduced sentence for leading them to the killer cannibals? What happened to the senator, did he get caught? That's it i guess.. I have more to say, but I'll try to leave you as confused as JP left me ...

his family nanny and part-time love interest, returns to Ireland
By TUCSON ROBERT
BURN, by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge is the seventh in a series starring NYPD Detective Michael Bennett. Bennett and his 12-member integrated family return to New York City following an extended period of protective isolation by the U. S. Marshal Service in the Los Angeles area. The Mexican drug cartel had threatened to kill Bennett and his family. His detective work and his testimony helped bring down the most corrupt cartel in Mexican history. Upon his return to the NYPD, he is assigned to head up an ombudsman outreach squad in Harlem composed of law enforcement misfits and uninspired NYPD detectives. At first he is unhappy about the assignment, even considers retiring, but finally decides to take on the job as a challenge. He soon has the unit shaped up and motivated when one of his female detectives turns up dead. The story unfolds with more unsolved murders along with a series of weird, high-end jewelry store heists, and a suspected hint of cannibalism along the way. In the midst of this turmoil, Bennett’s family problems multiply and Mary Catherin, his family nanny and part-time love interest, returns to Ireland. With this seemingly endless series of problems at work and at home, Bennett seems powerless and at a loss as to how to resolve them. The story becomes more interesting toward the end.
The novel’s short 100-plus chapters make for a quick and easy read. This is far from Patterson’s best, but worth the read. I give it an overall rating of 3.

Bennett is back and he may get burned.
By Chrystal
James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge have again teamed up to create another Michael Bennett thriller, Burn. This installment may very well scorch the Patterson fans' avid appetite, as this rousing novel follows two intense cases.
Be forewarned before the Burn ignites, some readers are likely to find the first several chapters to be uncommonly uneventful - but to be fair, there is nothing inherently wrong with allowing a story to unfold - luckily with Patterson's particular conversational style of storytelling and very short chapters - which I truly love - things really just move along as they should.
Bennett and his crew stumble upon the secret life of a successful powerful political figure and his friends, as they enter an underworld of terrifying depravity, madness and murder. Just when Bennett and his crew are close to apprehending the suspects, his attention is demanded elsewhere.... A five-man team is robbing high-end jewelry stores and wreaking havoc across the city.
Bennett finds himself being pulled in two different directions as the demands to quickly solve both puzzling cases fall on his shoulders. To add to his anxiety...someone claiming to be the biological father of one of Bennett's adopted daughters, is trying to take her away from him. With all this chaos going on, his longtime nanny and "significant other" Mary Catherine, has to leave the country to handle a family emergency of her own.
This journey will have readers wondering....will Michael Bennett be able to solve one of the most horrific cases of his career? Uncover the underlining motive behind a string of seemingly random diamond heist. Squash a silly twenty-year old rivalry, and save his career. Keep his daughter from the clutches of a father with ulterior motives. Finally profess his undying love to Mary Catherine, or will the pressures prove to be even too much for the infamous Detective Michael Bennett to handle?
Burn may start with a not-so engaging beginning, but ultimately the impact of this thriller heightens, and so will the reader's interest.
