By Patrick Lechner
Let me state quite clearly that I will NOT post any spoilers in this review. I honestly HATE that! Too often I find that when I'm reading reviews to find out what people think of an author or series most of them are riddled with spoilers.
I received my copy of A Dance of Ghosts when I returned from a two week house sitting vacation. Eagerly I plowed into the book and within an hour and forty five minutes found myself 240 pages in. This is where I had to stop myself. I needed to space it out let the story and awesomeness savor in my mind, that lasted all of a day.
If you've read any of David's previous works, and let's be honest, you must have, because this is book five of one series set within a multitude of books within the same world, then you will love this one.
I remember clearly when I had first gotten the Shadowdance Trilogy for my e-reader. Finding my insomnia once again getting the better of me, I restlessly awoke at 3AM, fired up my reader and began A Dance of Cloaks. By 10 AM that morning I had finished all three books of the trilogy. Eagerly I then hunted for, acquired, and devoured almost everything else I could find written by him. I believe I read nearly everything he had published within three weeks.
When I e-mailed and asked him if I could get a copy via Pyapaling him the money and requesting it autographed, the answer of course was yes. Thus we flash forward to where I acquired the book almost an entire month prior to it's release. At first, my initial thoughts were that it wouldn't be as easy to read through being that it was the actual book and not and e-book. Cause let's face it e-books make reading so much easier and faster. However, as I found out, anything written by David whether it be in book form, or e-book form I devour at an equal pace.
The way the scenes, action, dialogue and characters are written are so engaging that they make me feel as though I'm there with them rather than simply reading a story. I love all the characters, but most memorable to me probably because he was from the first book I had read was Haern. I mean bad ass warrior good guy's are always awesome, right? Right, of course. So thankfully we have this brand new novel in Haern's series to tide over till the finale of Dance of Chaos. Now I'm besot with myself for having to wait to read the final book of the series. I am always recommending David's books to my friends who like fantasy and am pushing the author himself to get his work done with GraphicAudio, because, they're awesome as well.
I highly recommend this to everyone who likes the rest of the series, and if you're new to the series or author by all means check out the rest of his world/work, you won't be disappointed I assure you.

A Dance of Ghosts
By johnchris
David Dalglish has done it again (and even better I might add)!
This is a great book to read after The Breaking World Series. The reader gets a greater understanding of Ashur and Karak in those books and it translates well here.
There are callbacks to a number of previous books and characters with more than a few mind-blowing surprises.
The characters are complex and at times frustrating. I was pretty angry at Thren, and Haern by the end of this one.
As per usual, there is quite a bit of intrigue to go along with the swordplay. This book has an overwhelming sense of tragedy and foreboding. I can't recommend it highly enough!

and am delighted to see the initial stories fleshed out and expanded
By Diggidy
I have been a reader of Dalglish's books for a few years now, and am delighted to see the initial stories fleshed out and expanded. This is definitely the best so far, and really lets you begin to feel the characters grow in meaningful ways. David has progressed tremendously as an author, and his fictional world is growing in scope and depth. I plan on staying with the world of Dezrel until David is finished writing.
NO Spoilers - but Haern and Thren are a fairly dysfunctional family!
