Great! An exact copy of the Japanese version, but not as well done.
By Astrum
I was quite thrilled to know that there was going to be a release of this book in English, but when my friend received his copy I was not as impressed.
What is inside:
The original book was released in 2009, so it contains pretty much most if not all of the art featured on the manga covers, as well as the advertisement pictures that were displayed in Japan and put on the DVDs.
The Pros:
1) EVERY page is brought on over from the Japanese version, which I do own.
2) The decorated plastic slipcase that goes over the wide hardcover art book comes with it!
3) The paper is of a pretty great quality. It is fairly glossy and quite thick that helps prevent bends and wear, as expected of most art books.
4) A majority of the artwork is done in color with a few monochrome works.
5) The art itself is wonderful and very well done. Atsushi-sensei is definitely a great artist!
6) Translation of the sources of the art (at the back of the book). It's pretty much the only part they translated aside from the author's name on the cover.
The Cons:
1) This is what got me. The binding that this book is done in is far worse than the Japanese version. It is very weak to the point where you open the pages to find the perf of the backbone (a line of cuts in the middle of the book) where the book has been bonded together. You could rip the pages out, or they could even fall out after regular viewing/usage of the book easily. Not to mention how much the visible, very noticeable perfs can ruin your enjoyment of the art, if you're OCD even just a little bit.
2) Because of the weak binding, the hardcover is also not very strong. It can slide easily and the front/black cover flaps (the parts of the hardcover that bend when you open it) makes it look like a cheap kindergartener's $3 storybook.
3) Sometimes you'd wish Atsushi made more backgrounds and put less character works (there are about 2 - 3 characters on a few pages in a white background, which are older illustrations of the characters themselves, and aren't even as grand as their better moments in the manga) by making better use of the space in the art book.
Overall:
Even if the binding is poorly done and the hardcover isn't too strong, this book is still entirely worth the money! It's 3 times as cheap as buying the Japanese version (Luckily I got mine in amazing, new condition for only 27 bucks) at an amazing price range of 17 - 20 USD! If you're a Soul Eater fan you definitely have to get this, regardless! Happy shopping, hope I helped even in the least bit of any worries and thoughts about buying this book.

Highly recommended for Soul Eater fans

[[VIDEOID:mo3FVJAWTYUML3L]]Soul Eater Soul Art is the artbook for the Soul Eater manga series that debuted in 2004. Since then, the manga has spun-off into an anime series and video games.
This book is actually the English translated edition of the original Japanese one 大久保篤 画集 SOUL EATER SOUL ART released in 2009.
It's a beautiful wide 112-page hardcover book that comes with a nice plastic slipcase. The overall package looks classy. The paper is thick low gloss and the binding is good.
Inside, it features the illustration art of creator Atsushi Ohkubo (大久保篤). The content is a split between full page artworks and character profile art.
The art is beautiful and I really love the graphic style, and there are a few styles. There are the comic-like colour illustrations, those that you can tell are created with traditional media. There are also the more graphic illustration style that features flat colours, much like anime-style colouring, but you know those pieces aren't drawn for animation. Then there are a few loose pieces with more fuzzy line art.
The characters are great, the poses, as well as the background settings and composition. The wide landscape canvas really displays the art as large as possible and they look great at big sizes. There are also some character designs for the game Soul Eater: Monotone Princess.
The back of the book contains the index which has short commentary for some of the pieces.
Highly recommended for Soul Eater fans, or if you like manga art.

Love this book!!!!!
By ellie
I absolutely love this book. I'm a huge Soul Eater fan and was super excited when I got this in the mail. I bought this almost a yr ago so I'm a little late writing this review but nonetheless I'll do it. The book is a bit bigger then expect, well bigger then what I expect but no complaints, I actually like it that way. There's also comments at the end of the book by the author. And a little of his previous work. The colors and pictures just look better when you have them in your hands rather then looking through a computer screen. All I. Need now is his autograph and it'll be perfect lol (﹡ˆᴗˆ﹡)
