Fast-paced times in Alt-Britian

Positive: Xandra and her hot werewolf boyfriend, Vex. Naked werewolves, FTW! Scottish werewolves in kilts? EVEN BETTER! This is one area where Xandra excels. While all the rest of her life might be headed down the tubes or blowing up around her, her love life is the one constant that keeps her grounded. An alpha pack leader with plenty of experience under his belt, Vex is strong, gorgeous and the voice of reason, especially when Xandra's about to run off half-cocked.
Positive: Alt-Britain. While it's not *really* steampunk, there are some elements that harken to steampunk genre, especially when it comes to clothing complete with corsets and funky little hats. However, the timeframe itself is somewhere in the 20th Century, since they have "wireless devices" and "logic engines" (cell phones and computers, of a sort). Since Her Exsanguinated Majesty, Queen Victoria, is alive and well, the Victorian era lives on in Britain. Then there are all the paranormal creatures who not only live among humans, they rule.
Positive: The language. I'll admit it--I'm a bit of an Anglophile and love not only those accents *swoon* but their expressions. Many of those sayings are sprinkled liberally through this story, adding to the authentic English feel of the setting. Among my favorites: tosser, bloody hell, stupid sod (huh. I guess I like the insults best). Of course, some of those expressions are unique to this novel like "fang me" or "bubonic betty" (humans who dose with paranormal blood, which is like super-steroids).
Wish: That more people knew about this series. Seriously, ya'll. It's fun and action-packed and definitely worth any urban fantasy fan's time.
Overall: Fast-paced and filled with intriguing characters, THE QUEEN IS DEAD will have you flipping pages as Xandra the Goblin Queen races to save her brother and prevent a war with the humans.

It doesn't feel like today with a steampunk over lay

Kate Locke has done it, locked onto my imagination and held on. I have to say I thoroughly loved the characters and their interactions, I really felt like I was peeping into the lives of Xandra and Vex, I want more I want more now, but October will come for me soon right?
Do yourself the favor, buy the books, give yourself some time to read them and then grind your teeth like I did because number 3 isn't out yet.
I am hoping that Xandra evolves along with her strengths and that she doesn't think she has to do it all alone. She may be the new version of Goblin, but she has a whole lot of people who are just as interesting willing to help her.
I want to see what Ms. Locke does with her very nicely rounded out characters. Now to sit and wait.

Fantastic series! Highly recommend it

What can I say? I just love this series! I love Xandra and Vex and all the secondary characters. I love Xandra's narrative voice. The storyline is compelling and unique. And there's something else I can't quite put my finger on that makes this series special and one of my favorites. I don't know when book three comes out but I hope it's not a year away.
